sophie-may
hi, i’m sophie-may, one of the teachers here at VDC. i have over 15 years of dance experience. throughout my dance journey, i have competed extensively in freestyle competitons accross the country, progressing through the ranks to achieve champion level
alongside performing, i have developed a strong passion for teaching. i succesfully completed my dance teaching exam in august 2023, followed by my acrobatic arts exam in october 2023. prior to teaching, i trained in acrobatics myself, which was always my favourite lesson and has given me a strong foundation to support and safetly develop my own students’ skills.
my favourite style to teach os commercial and street dance, i feel it goes beyond learning choreography - it encourages dancers to express their individuality and bring their own personality into every movement.
Teaches: Monday - Young Adults. Thursdays - All ACrobatics classes and Senior dance
amelia
Beginning dance training at just 2.5yrs, i developed a strong foundation in tap, ballet and modern dance. i completed formal examinations in both modern and tap. at age seven, i began performing in pantomines and musical thetare productions, spekaing a long lasting passion for performance.
in 2015, i joined vdc as part of the young adults class. i began supporting saturday classes in 2020, and became a qualified dance teacher in 2023.
alongside teaching, i have directed and choreographed pantomines for a local musical society.
my favourite style to teach is tap, as its distinctive rhythm and technique make it a uniquely expressive form of dance. when performing, i am drawn to musical theatre, where i love the chance to inhibit a character and bring story telling to life through movement.
i am passionate about teaching because i love seeing children grow in confidence and watching their self expression emerge through dance. it is incredbly rewarding to witness students develop not only their teachnique, but also life skills that dance nutured beying the studio. being part of their growth - on and off stage- is one of the most fulfilling aspects of teaching for me.
Teaches: Saturday classes - Tots, Mambos, juniors and teens

i stepped back from teaching all 10 classes after having my second child and handed the tap shoes over to AMelia and Sophie. I now have more of a back seat role; doing company admin, show preperation, costume sourcing etc ensuring we have a fabulous summer show for you all to watch!
I still teach the monday night adult class which i love, i’ve grown up dancing with these lovely ladies so it often feels more like a night out with my friends than work! how lucky am i!
but even though i’m only teaching the one class now, i’m still very hands on and you will still see me around, especially with the younger classes on a saturday. i just love seeing the relationships the children have formed with both Sophie and Amelia and watching these kids blossom in to beautiful, kind, confident children, is an absolute pleasure and privilidge.
outside of the studio, i love a good project (usually redesigning the house - much to my husband’s dismay), going for runs or exercise classes, and spending time with my two gorgeous children and minature daschund, rex.
Teaches: monday night adults
